CFL Game To Be Broadcast In Cree and Blackfoot

Via 3DownNation, a report on the Edmonton Elks’ plan to broadcast their Labour Day game in Cree and Blackfoot:
The Edmonton Elks will be bringing the Labour Day rematch to Indigenous radio listeners in Alberta in two of their native languages.
On Thursday, the club announced it will be partnering with Windspeaker Media for a second time in order to broadcast their matchup with the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, September 9 in both Cree and Blackfoot.
In 2022, the Elks became the first CFL team to have their game broadcast in an Indigenous language when their matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on July 22 was called in Cree (nêhiyawêwin). Play-by-play voice Wayne Jackson returns to do the same this season, while Francis ‘Butch’ Wolfleg will handle commentary duties in Blackfoot. The broadcast will rotate between the two languages, with Jacob LeBlanc handling hosting duties in English.
“We are excited to once again partner with our friends at the Edmonton Elks to bring this historic CFL broadcast in Cree and Blackfoot to our listeners in Alberta. This is going to be a fun night with Wayne and Butch,” Windspeaker Media shared in a statement.
The game will be available live on both CFWE in Edmonton (98.5 FM) and CJWE in Calgary (88.1 FM).
This is the second time this season that the Elks have broadcast their game in a secondary language. Their July 29 matchup against the B.C. Lions was the first CFL game ever broadcast in Punjabi.
The Elks are set to debut their new Indigenous-designed logo on Thursday night when they take on the Blue Bombers.
