Fresno State’s Home Opener Will Make College Football History With Exclusive Spanish Broadcast
By admin
Via Athlon Sports, a report that Fresno State’s home opener will make College Football history as September 9 will mark FBS’ first exclusively Spanish television broadcast:
The Fresno State Bulldogs marched to a Mountain West Conference championship in 2022. While that victory marked their fourth league title since joining the Mountain West, they’ll be part of something no FBS team ever has: an exclusively Spanish-language television broadcast of a college football game.
The news was reported by FBSchedules.com on Wednesday afternoon that their September 9 home game against FCS foe Eastern Washington will be just that.
UniMás is an American Spanish-language free-to-air television network owned by TelevisaUnivision. The game will be broadcast on UniMás throughout California’s Central Valley. Emmy Award winning sportscaster Jessi Losada will handle play-by-play for the broadcast.
“This is a historic partnership for our university and our athletics department, as it aligns perfectly with our strategic priorities,” said Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval in a press release sent out Wednesday afternoon. “Univision’s reach and impact in our region is unparalleled and our collaboration enables us to build a solid pathway for our youth in our Valley to engage with Fresno State, now and in the future.”
Per Fresno State, the University is designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, with an enrollment of 57% Hispanic students.
UniMás can be found in the Fresno-Visalia DMA on digital channel 23 and virtual channel 61, and in the Bakersfield DMA on digital channel 31. It is also available on YouTubeTV, fuboTV, DirecTV, and Dish Network on channel 271. UniMás can also be streamed at tv.univision.com or via the Univision Now app.
Fans seeking an English-language broadcast can stream the game via the Mountain West Network, which will incorporate the radio broadcast from the Bulldog Sports Network.
Fresno State will open the season on the road on September 2 against the Purdue Boilermakers.
